The New Mexico State Capitol. Strikingly unique, and evocative of its environment. No dome, no marble columns, no copy of the federal capitol in Washington (itself a copy of St. Paul's in London). New Mexico has had a number of capitols since becoming a territory in 1850 and a state in 1912--the Palace of the Governors, inherited from the Spanish and Mexican periods and a couple of others, one of which burned down. This one was built in 1966 and updated in 1991-92. The inside is stunning, but I really couldn't get any pictures that do it justice.
