Weather: Very Hot, Sunny, No Breeze
Temperature: Around 100F
Altitude: 2,431 feet

We're in the desert at a top-rated AAA RV park and it's awful! The WiFi is uselessly slow (so again, no pictures of Canyon de Chelly) and the park is antiseptically barren. The place is laid out like a suburban development, with curbs, paved streets, and paved parking pads for the campers (which are mostly expensive motor homes or humongous fifth wheels). I can see why AAA likes it--it's spotless, but incredibly artificial. In between the paved sites, there are raked landscaping pebbles with a very small parched-looking tree throwing a very small patch of shade, and there is a page of rules (nothing can be left outside "the unit" except two lawn chairs--all grills, coolers, tables, etc., must be stowed in "the unit!") And all this pavement means the outside temperature is over 100F and of course the hum of air conditioners is the ambient noise. On the positive side, we have cellphone service and a very good cable TV system, so we will be able to watch the Red Sox on ESPN in a little while.

We will be moving on tomorrow into the lower Owens Valley of California. We'll see what tomorrw brings.
